Continuous Emission Monitoring System Monitors Emissions In Real-Time

Image
A Continuous Emission Monitoring System Emission Monitoring System , or CEMS, is a process that monitors emissions in real-time. The device uses a series of gas sensors to measure the levels of various gases. The system can be configured to monitor all gases or to detect specific gases. A CEMC is ideal for facilities that produce a wide variety of pollutants, such as carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide. In addition to monitoring gas concentrations, CEMS systems also provide information on the amount of nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, and ozone. The CEMS has long-term data retention. It measures actual emissions and can be used to operate a source or demonstrate compliance with regulations. These systems must meet specific criteria and may require formal certification. They measure the concentration of pollutant rates, mass per unit time, and opacity of flue gas. A Continuous Emission Monitoring System can also be used as a backup to an existing CEMS.
