The growing prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders is fueling the growth of the Stairlifts Market. According to the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study, in 2017, musculoskeletal conditions were the highest contributor to global disability and around 16% of the patients lived with disability. Moreover, according to the World Health Organization report published in November 2019, the prevalence of musculoskeletal conditions varies by age and diagnosis, and 20 to 33% of the people across the globe suffered from a painful musculoskeletal condition in 2017. Moreover, the rise in the aging population is again expected to augment the growth of the market. According to a United Nations report published in October 2019, there are around 703 million people in the age group of 65 or above across the globe, and it is expected to reach 1.5 billion by 2050. Moreover, according to the same source, 1 in 6 people in the world will be over the age of 65 by 2050, up from 1 in 11 in 2019.

Stairlifts are mechanical devices that enable disabled individuals to move up and down the stairs without the help of others. Stairlifts work on the same principles as elevators in which a person can ascend or descend a set of stairs by pushing a button. Stairlifts provide increased mobility to people who otherwise might not be able to afford a home of their own. They come in a variety of models and designs, there are a few key differences between all stairlifts. The most important difference between the different models is the installation process. Most stairlifts have a manual transmission system that involves pushing a stairlift button to start the ascent up the stairs. Some stairlifts are equipped with electronic controls to control the exact speed of the stairlift's movement.

North America is expected to dominate the global Stairlifts Market owing to the high prevalence of osteoarthritis in the region. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common joint disorder in the United States. Symptomatic knee OA occurs in 10% of men and 13% in women aged 60 years or older. The number of people affected with symptomatic OA is likely to increase due to the aging of the population and the obesity epidemic.
